Paris, je reviens

As promised, a small selection of the photos I made during my - unfortunately - short stay in Paris.

Python Feet

Whether I like it or not, I'm back from Paris. One of the following days I will be uploading some photos I took during my stay, but in the meantime I couldn't keep myself from sharing this.
I saw these python-print ankle boots by Guiseppe Zanotti in the Rue Saint-Honoré, a hotspot for famous designer brands in Paris. I've been in love ever since.

I have been a fan of python prints for a long time, so I'm very excited that it's a big upcoming trend for fall/winter 2011-2012. Python printed shoes like these are always a big hit when worn under a subtle, even look in shades of black, grey or camel.

Au revoir!

Last saturday I went to the Replay fashion show at Fashion Club 70 in Antwerp. Since I was there to represent "The Antwerp Shopper", you can read a full report of the night here on Tanguy's website.

Long Live McQueen

De mortuis nihil nisi bonum. That's a Latin saying which means that you cannot say anything negative about a person who died. In case of Alexander McQueen I definitely have to agree.

When I first read about his exhibition Savage beauty in the Metropolitan Museum of Art I absolutely wanted to see it. So you can probably understand why I was so exited to be in New York again. Normally you have to wait like an hour to get in but luckily we were members of the museum so we could enter immediately. Yes I know, I'm a very lucky girl. Don't be discouraged when you see the long line in the museum because it's definitely worth the wait.

I have to admit that it was one of the most beautiful exhibition I've ever seen. I felt a lot of emotions when I was looking at all the indescribable dresses and I was so touched that I couldn't control my happy-tears. Every single dress is a masterpiece and to see these pieces of art in reality was just overwhelming. Not only the dresses were magnificent, also the music and the way the whole exhibition was presented took my breath away.

I can tell you a lot of things about the exhibition, but in this video you get a little tour and a lot of information told by the curator, which is very interesting because you can see the dresses and how they are presented.

You can also watch this hologram in the museum. You see the incredibly beautiful Kate Moss in an even more beautiful dress. I have to be honest here, I think I've watched it three times in the museum and another 10 times at home.

Unfortunately visitors weren't allowed to take pictures, but I've found some pictures on the internet of pieces I really liked.

This is one of my favorites

Modefabriek 2011

The past weekend I have been working at Modefabriek 2011 in Amsterdam. Thanks to Jo & Co Agency I had the chance to temporarily represent Belgium and Luxembourg on the Gestuz stand. I was very proud to be representing a brand that I love and which really fits my own style. The average Gestuz girl is quite edgy and dominant, but has yet a romantic side to her.

The Danish designers from Gestuz, Sanne Sehested Nielsen and Lene Boesen tend to use a lot of blacks and greys. That's why I was quite happy to see that new spring collection for 2012 contains a lot more colour and creates a great ability to make some very cool yet feminine combinations.

Gestuz' Spring 2012 collection contains some shades of brown and beige and a lot of leather and denim materials
I love the outfit on the right, especially the leather sleeved denim jacket

Gestuz isn't the only cool brand that the agency imports, Ichi has also been catching my eye lately. They have taken a very feminine turn with their new summer collection which includes some really elegant and soft coloured pieces.

Californication

It's a long time ago that I posted something, but I blame it on my wonderful life here in California. Saturday I will leave San Diego and that's going to be hard. I had such a great time and I'm really going to miss La Jolla and SD. I'm so happy that I had the chance to meet all those amazing people and I will never forget this experience. I wish I could stay a little longer and hang out on Pacific Beach and watch the sunset in the hope of seeing the Green Light.

But my USA trip will not end on saturday because my sister and I will meet my parents in New York!! We will stay for a few days in my favorite city and probably visit Washington afterwards. I've been saving my money so I can spend it when I'm in the big Apple but of course I couldn't resist some nice shopping in downtown SD.

Sous le ciel de Paris

Aaah, Paris blues... They seem to come around more and more these days. Everytime I get this particular kind of blues, I watch this video:

I can't say it makes me instantly cheery and satisfied, but it does make me feel a little bit closer to the charming atmosphere of la Ville de Lumière. And there's nothing quite like that typically magical Parisian feeling.

Luckily my strong desire will be fulfilled soon, parce-que chérie, je vais à Paris!  The only thing left for me to do right now is wait patiently until mid-august, because that's when I'll be off.

Oh and one other thing too, before I drift off completely to some French dimension, here are some ideas of how to dress when you're actually there.

Elena Perminova in a lovely sheer dress. Black is the colour, even in the city of lights.

Olivia Palermo, she might be American, but she sure knows how to dress Paris-style.

City chic

It's not the first time I refer to Whitney Port's style (see festival post) and I'm sure it won't be the last one either. I love the way she always seems to set new trends, yet she succeeds to maintain her personal style at any time. Her style is very elegant but she never looks like she put too much effort in her outfit, unlike many others. Finding the right balance between being casual and chic isn't always easy, but Miss Port has definitely got it.

Here are some of my favourite W. Port outfits so far. (Probably to be continued...)

Champagne taste & Coca-Cola money

I spotted these Acne Pistol Boots a while ago on The Blonde Salad and they have been in my head ever since. I have to admit that it took me some time to get used to them though. But there's no denying the fact that I can't get them out of my thoughts (I do think of other things from time to time). Unfortunately they are, again, out of my price range. I tend to like chasing things that are out of my range, which explains the name of this post.

While I was sales shopping for the millionth time this week, I stumbled upon Sacha's replicas of these boots. They really made my day! Although it's not the real thing, I think these are definitely worth watching (and wearing) too.

I know where I'll be heading tomorrow and what I'll be wearing the day after!

Hello San Diego

I'm in San Diego with my sister. What a wonderful place! The weather is nice, the beach is beautiful and the people are very friendly. When I was exploring the neighborhood with my sister today, a girl looked at me and said "I love your dress." Before I could even say thanks, she was gone. I don't know her, but I definitely like her.
In Belgium girls don't often say nice things to a girl they don't know. We just stare and talk behind her back. Positive of course, but with a little bit of (healthy) jealousy now and then. I think we should be more like that girl today! It boost your confidence. That girl made my day.

My sister and I went to the beach. Oh I love summer
I was wearing my simple red&white striped dress

My favourite time of year

SALES! Don't you just love them? Although, whether or not it's a good habit, I always tend to buy at least one piece of the new collection. For instance this animal printed boyfriend blazer from Zara's new collection, I just couldn't leave it hanging there.

Here are some photos of the other pieces I bought so far. Outfit posts will definitely follow later on.

Metallic Obi

Yet another fashion trend I really love, obi belts. I prefer the metallic ones, especially combined with a colour blocking outfit, just like Gucci did in the outfits below. This kind of belt is ideal to separate your different coloured pieces. In the meantime, it makes your bright outfit even more shimmery and vivid and it accentuates your body by making your waist look thinner.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't need any more persuading. Unfortunately the Gucci ones are a little out of my financial range. At least I know what I'll be looking for during summer sales!

Festival Season Kick-off

CALYPSO ST BARTH long tee, $49
TopShop black shorts, $66
Bandeau swimwear, $60
Report checkered slip on shoes, $70
Proenza Schouler satchel handbag, $1,595
Alexander McQueen silk shawl, £275

This weekend the festival season in Belgium has officially started. I could think of no better reason to post a set of pretty festival clothes. Apart from the comfy maxi-dresses, casual shorts with loose, oversized tops or shirts are always a big hit during festivals. We definitely recommend wearing bright, sunny colours. How else were you planning on getting that hot bandleader's attention? Cardboard signs are soooo 2010!

There's a reason why there's a male part in female . This proves again that women can get away with everything!

Say Hi to our magazine: LIM.IT

Lisa and I are both (very) busy studying journalism in Antwerp. Towards the end of our year we had to make a magazine about links between the U.S.A. and Antwerp. Together with three other classmates we worked on our magazine for several weeks. It has literally cost us blood, sweet and tears - although you shouldn't take the blood part too seriously - but now we are proud to present to you, the cover of our brand new, very own magazine, LIM.IT!

P.S.: For those who would like to read some of our articles, you can always visit our webpage at http://limitit.wordpress.com/

Brussels with the ladies

Today, Charlotte and I went to Brussels with three lovely girls from school. We had an amazing afternoon and so much luck with the weather (it's officially summer, but believe me you wouldn't say it is. Oh sweet little Belgium, no government and bad weather).

Anyway, I was really happy to see them again and to be in Brussels. I love our capital; all the different cultures, the beautiful galleries, and of course les chocolatiers . Et mais oui aussi le français, bien sûr.

Thanks to Melissa we have our first "outfit"photos to share. Which I think is very nice.

Clientology Antwerp

A few days ago I paid my first visit to Clientology in Antwerp. Since De Cliént already opened a first branch in Gent, it was obvious that Antwerp was due to get one too. Clientology is pretty much the relaxed, zen version of De Client. Think relaxing music, massages and biological treatments for your hair as well as your body. I had already been in big need of a haircut and I figured a little relaxation couldn’t hurt either. And relaxation I got!

To start with, the interior decoration is very stylish and creates a really soothing atmosphere. People were all extremely friendly. The way I wanted my hair done was thoroughly discussed which is quite important since hair is a sacred issue to many women. Around lunchtime every customer got a bowl of absolutely delicious biological soup. But my favourite moment had to be having my hair washed. Imagine having your head massaged while sitting in a chair that massages your back and having your hands pampered, all at the same time. I dare you not to float off to another dimension while sitting there!
